SPECapc® for Siemens NX 6

The SPECapc® for Siemens NX 6 benchmark resulted from a collaboration between Siemens and the SPECapc committee.

The benchmark was released on April 11, 2012.

The SPECapc for Siemens NX 6 benchmark runs on the Windows 7 64-bit operating system. It can be used to measure performance on systems running various versions of NX 6 and 7, but results have been validated for NX 6 only.

The benchmark includes six models ranging in size from 56 MB to 521 MB in both wireframe and fully shaded modes. It tests performance for operations such as loading parts, booleans, rotations, zooms, pans, front and back clipping, modifying perspective parameters, full-view generation, different edge modes, translucency and hidden-surface removal. The six models are a model boat, submarine, automotive engine, SUB auto body, powertrain, and six copies of submarine.

The benchmark is run five times to ensure consistent results. It records results for graphics, CPU and disk I/O operations, as well as a composite number for total system performance.

The total number of seconds to run each test is normalized based on a reference machine, in this case a Dell Precision 690 with Xeon 5130 2GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570, and 16GB RAM with 4x4GB ECC DDR2 667MHz. The normalization process ensures a scoring system where a bigger score is better.

Users must have a 3D graphics display device recognized by Siemens NX 6 in order to run the benchmark. A fully licensed, released version of Siemens NX 6 is required. If a floating license is used, the workstation’s network must be configured as documented in the Siemens NX 6 installation guide.
